Six months later…
Some days it still feels like yesterday.
Some days, like a lifetime ago.
But while the world moved on… we’re still here – living the aftermath of January 7th, every single day.
People ask:
“How are you doing?”
“Are you rebuilding?”
“How’s it going?”
The questions are simple.
The answers… are not.
For my family, the only change since standing in front of our burning home is it’s gone from a pile of ash… to a pile of dirt.
I’m grateful for the Army Corps and the incredible work clearing our community.
But beyond that? We’re stuck. And we’re not alone.
I still believe. I still hope. But belief alone won’t rebuild our lives.
Something has to change.
This isn’t about politics – it’s about people.
It’s not about blame – it’s about rebuilding what matters most.
Our community isn’t waiting. Isn’t just wishing.
We’re taking action. Creating pressure. Forcing conversations.
Doing what we can – displaced, uncertain, but still united.
Choosing to rise… together.
We don’t need rescuing.
We need remembering.
We need rallying.
We need rising.
Because attention sparks pressure.
Pressure creates accountability.
And accountability drives change.
Regardless of political views, I’m grateful for any national media willing to give our story a voice.
